Dancing with the Brush: The Art of Japanese Calligraphy
6:30 PM
Learn about the history, techniques and
spiritual foundation of the ancient art of Japanese Calligraphy. Through
a combination of demonstration and conversation, Lois Erhartic will help
you understand and appreciate this graceful and expressive art form. She
will explain the use of traditional brushes, inks and papers and how
finished works are mounted and made into scrolls.
About the presenter:
Lois teaches Japanese Calligraphy through the Portsmouth Arts Guild and
is available for hands on demonstrations for small groups, schools and
festivals. She has exhibited at the Guild, the Prudential Center in
Boston, and at Spring Bull Gallery in Newport. Lois began her studies of
Japanese Calligraphy under Mr. Kaji Aso, Boston, MA in 2004. Since then
she has also studied with Master Calligrapher Michiko Imai, of Nara,
Japan and Professor Shozo Sato, Ft. Bragg, CA. Lois’ life before
calligraphy includes a 20 year career as a sales trainer, business coach
and marketing consultant to entrepreneurs and non-profits.
Please join us for conversation & refreshments at 6:30 pm followed by
