Welcome to our new on-line version of Guild Ink. Going to this format, provided through Constant Contact, enables us at minimal cost to include pictures and other formatting for a more interesting and informative newsletter. There are many different computer systems out there, and we want to make sure that yours can receive this new format and that you can read it easily. If you can't, please email me (eric.broudy@verizon.net) and copy Karen Talbot, Guild Ink's editor, at karentalbotart@gmail.com, and we'll try to figure things out.

April brings a show of student artwork to the gallery from a number of area high schools - Portsmouth, Middletown and Tiverton public schools, as well as Portsmouth Abbey, Rogers High School, and St. George's in Newport. In addition, simultaneously with the opening reception on Friday, April 4, 6-8 pm, Jan Armor has arranged for a photo exhibition of work by students from the Elmhurst School across the parking lot in the former Armor & Martel Photography building. The opening reception will also feature music by Sidewinder, a local 3-piece student rock band, from 7 to 8pm.

Of course, April also begins the ongoing exhibition of works by the Guild's resident artists on the standing panels. From April through July, you'll see work by Wanda Perkowska Coderre, Anne Winthrop Cordin, John Forasté, Carol Gates, Libby Gilpatric, Carol Lynn Hall, Rita Heymann, Jerry Landay, Toni Petersen, Jane Renwick, Lenny Rumpler, and John Tolley, as well as jewelry by Mary Ann Martin and Martha NacNaught in the display cases.

The next members' meeting, Tues., April 15, will feature a discussion by Marion Wilner, painter and printmaker. Marion is a long time member of the DeBlois gallery in Newport. She is also Professor Emerita of Arts at Bristol Community College in Fall River, where she founded the art department. She will speak about Jewish artists and themes in their work, a subject which is often reflected in her own work.

It's a whole new season of art at the Center for the Arts. If you're not currently involved on a committee and want to get more involved, give me a call or send an email and let me know. This is your arts guild; we want to hear your ideas and have you participate as much as you can.

See you at the gallery!
