Happy New Year! It's not too late to make your New Year's resolutions. Be sure to include among them that you'll be submitting new work to Portsmouth Arts Guild exhibitions. For those who are too exhausted from the trials and tribulations of 2008 to write down their own, here are a few resolutions that you can simply copy and paste into your 2009 to-do list. Take your pick:
· I resolve to keep art as a central focus in my life. · I resolve to challenge myself to create the best art I'm capable of creating. · I resolve to attend more member meetings and learn more what other artists are doing. · I resolve to take that art class I've been considering all last year. · I resolve to attend at least 3 museum exhibitions this year. · I resolve to help The Portsmouth Arts Guild by joining a committee. · I resolve to _____________________________ [you fill in the blank].
If you haven't yet renewed your membership for 2009, it's now January and time to do so. Don't wait. Resolve to rejoin now while it's on your mind. ($40 for individuals, $55 family, $25 student, send to P.O. Box 463, Portsmouth 02871.)
And if you're renewing your Arts Guild Members' Gallery on the website, don't forget to include $20 for that. You can also email new jpegs to Jan Armor to change what's currently there (jandarmor@fctvplus.net). If you don't have your artwork on the web now, it's only $20 to have up to 16 images placed there in our Members' Gallery. Go to our website and check it out. Send $20 to the Guild and contact Jan Armor for info on how to get your artwork uploaded. It's an inexpensive way to get your art seen by thousands of viewers. According to our web manager, Kathy Parker, people are visiting the Arts Guild website at the rate of 10,000 a month, more than half via the Members' Gallery, and that number has been steadily growing.
If you're interested in art classes, don't forget to attend the 2nd Art-o-Rama on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2-4 pm, where art teachers for the spring classes will be demonstrating their work and technique. Signing up for a spring art class at the Art-o-Rama will save you 10% off the regular Guild members' tuition.
If you have something to sell, or something you're looking for, list it for FREE in this newsletter. Send your classified ad notice to Guild Ink Editor Karen Talbot (karentalbotart@gmail.com) and it will appear next month.
And finally, don't forget the members' meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 6:30 pm in the gallery. I'll be out of town that day, so the meeting will be conducted by our new vice president, JP Fernandes. You'll love the program -- a visual presentation and talk by Jan and Kathy Armor about their "Ultimate Africa" trip they took this fall.
See you at the gallery!
~Eric Broudy
